Betta pi
Origin: Malaysia, Thailand
Betta pi is a large wild betta from the blackwater peat swamps and slow streams of Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand, belonging to the splendens complex. It is notable for its elongated body compared to the typical compact betta form, with subtle but attractive blue-green iridescence on a dark base. Males are territorial and require very soft, acidic water replicating peat swamp conditions. Best kept singly or in a heavily planted species tank.
Maintain very soft, acidic blackwater conditions using RO water treated with Indian almond leaves or peat. Provide heavy planting and surface cover. Feed live and frozen invertebrates. Keep males separately or in a very large planted species tank. Sensitive to alkaline or hard water.
