Rhinecanthus aculeatus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
The Picasso Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus aculeatus), also known as the Lagoon Triggerfish and Hawaii's state fish 'Humuhumunukunukuapua'a', is one of the most iconic marine fish with an artist-painted abstract pattern in blue, yellow, brown, and black. Hardy and bold, it develops a strong personality and will aggressively defend its territory, attack tank mates, and destroy invertebrates. Best suited to large FOWLR aquariums with robust, similarly sized companions.
House in a large FOWLR aquarium. Provide substantial live rock with caves. Feed a varied diet of meaty foods: frozen shrimp, krill, clam, and quality marine pellets. Aggressive—introduce last into established tanks. Will destroy most invertebrates. Protect fingers at feeding time.
