Caridina sp. 'Pinokio'
Also known as: Pinokio Shrimp, Pinocchio Shrimp
Origin: Southeast Asia (captive bred)
Pinokio Shrimp (Caridina sp. 'Pinokio') are a distinctive and unusual Caridina recognised immediately by their disproportionately long, sword-like rostrum that extends well beyond the head. Body colouration is translucent to pale with variable dark spotting. They originate from soft, slightly acidic Southeast Asian streams and require similar water conditions to other Caridina species. Their unusual morphology makes them a prized conversation piece in the hobby.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 6.2–7.0, TDS 100–200, GH 4–8, KH 1–4. Tank: minimum 20 L, fine substrate, driftwood, and moss for cover. Feeding: biofilm, powdered shrimp food, algae wafers, blanched vegetables. Behaviour: active and exploratory; peaceful with similar-sized invertebrates. Compatibility: keep with other peaceful Caridina; avoid fish.
