Pittier's Diamond Tetra (Longfin)

The Longfin Diamond Tetra is a selectively bred variety of Moenkhausia pittieri in which the fins — particularly the dorsal and caudal — have been extended into sweeping, veil-like formations that greatly amplify the species' characteristic iridescent shimmer. Under good aquarium lighting, the elongated fins catch and refract light in a constantly shifting display of silver, violet, and green. The underlying hardiness and easy care of the parent species is fully retained. This variety is best housed in planted aquariums with gentle water movement and away from any known fin-nippers. A true showpiece tetra for the discerning planted-tank enthusiast.

Water: pH 6.0–7.5, temperature 24–28 °C; soft to moderately hard. Stable conditions important for fin health. Tank: 80 L minimum; well-planted with gentle flow. Avoid fin-nipping tankmates at all costs. Feeding: Omnivore; quality pellets, flake, frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp, and vegetable supplement. Breeding: Egg-scatterer; longfin trait heritable. Breed as standard Moenkhausia pittieri. Compatibility: Peaceful; keep only with gentle, non-nippy community fish.
