Placidochromis phenochilus
Origin: Lake Malawi, Tanzania
Placidochromis phenochilus 'Tanzania' — the Mdoka white lips — develops a magnificent deep blue-black body with vivid white spots and lips in dominant males. It is a large haplochromine that sifts sand to find invertebrates. The vivid contrast of white on blue makes it one of the most photogenic Malawi cichlids. It is relatively peaceful for its size and mixes well in large haplochromine community tanks.
pH 7.8–8.5. 400+ L. Sand substrate. Harem or colony. Feed: high-quality cichlid pellets, mysis.
