Betta splendens
Also known as: Platinum White Betta, White Betta, Platinum Betta
Origin: Southeast Asia
True platinum white bettas have opaque, metallic white colouration produced by a combination of iridescent cell expression and reduced pigment genetics. They appear almost luminous in a planted aquarium. Quality specimens should show no visible colour breaks, with fins as white as the body.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to medium hardness — pristine conditions preserve the white colouration. Tank: minimum 20L; dark substrate creates a dramatic contrast with the platinum body. Feeding: carnivore — betta pellets, frozen bloodworm, daphnia; feed twice daily. Behaviour: males are territorial — one per tank; otherwise a peaceful and elegant display fish. Compatibility: peaceful community tanks; contrast beautifully against green plants.
