Poecilia reticulata var.
Also known as: Platinum White Guppy, White Guppy
Origin: Captive bred (originally Trinidad & Venezuela)
The Platinum White Guppy is a selectively bred strain of Poecilia reticulata prized for its immaculate white body with a subtle metallic sheen. Males carry a large, flowing delta tail that catches and reflects aquarium light, making them a centrepiece in any planted community tank.
Like all fancy guppies, this strain thrives in warm, hard, slightly alkaline water. Regular partial water changes and a varied diet of high-quality flake, micro-pellets, and live or frozen foods will keep colouration vivid and health robust.
Multiple females should be kept per male to spread breeding attention; dense planting or a breeding box protects fry from being consumed.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard to hard (GH 8–20). Tank: 60 L minimum; densely planted with floating plants to diffuse light and shelter fry; tight-fitting lid required. Feeding: High-quality flake, micro-pellets, live/frozen Daphnia and Artemia; feed 2–3 small meals daily. Breeding: Prolific livebearer; females drop 20–50 fry every 4–6 weeks; remove fry or provide heavy planting. Compatibility: Peaceful community fish; avoid fin-nipping species such as tiger barbs.
