About

Pachypanchax playfairii is a striking and somewhat unusual killifish endemic to the Seychelles islands, known for the remarkable golden-yellow scales each bearing a vivid red spot, creating a polka-dotted effect. It is a larger, more assertive killifish with a tendency to be aggressive toward smaller fish, and thrives best in a species tank or with robust similarly sized tankmates. Males can be aggressive in the breeding season.

Care Guide

Water: 20–26 °C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 60 L species or biotope tank; floating plants; very tight-fitting lid. Feeding: Live and frozen invertebrates; blood worm, Artemia; dried food accepted. Behaviour: Males territorial and aggressive; keep one male with two to three females. Compatibility: Species tank or with large, robust fish only; very predatory.
