About

Polypterus ornatipinnis, the Ornate Bichir, is one of the most spectacular polypterid species — beautiful marble patterning in cream, black and orange on an armoured, prehistoric body. Breathes air using a primitive lung. One of the most unique freshwater fish available.

Care Guide

Large tank 300 L+. Temperature 24–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5. Must be able to reach the surface to breathe air — never fully seal the tank. Eats smaller fish and invertebrates. Feed large pellets, earthworms, frozen fish. Escaper — secure lid.
