Carassius auratus
Also known as: Pompom Goldfish, Pompon Goldfish, Nasal Bouquet Goldfish
Origin: China
The Pompom Goldfish's most striking feature is its nasal bouquets — bundles of divided, fleshy tissue that develop on the nostrils and sway with the fish's movements. These delicate outgrowths can occasionally be damaged and may regrow if torn. The Pompom can be found in both dorsal-fin and dorsal-fin-free varieties.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, clean water to prevent infection of nasal outgrowths. Tank: minimum 120 L, no sharp edges, gentle filtration flow. Feeding: sinking pellets and blanched vegetables, small portions to avoid overfeeding. Behaviour: peaceful and slow; the pompoms can impair smelling but fish adapt well. Compatibility: other fancy goldfish of similar temperament and size.
