Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Singapore
The Pondicherry or Singapore Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus) has an unusual tricolor appearance — a white mid-body flanked by a black head and yellow-orange posterior — giving it a clown-like presence in the aquarium. A moderate-sized angel that adapts reasonably well compared to other Chaetodontoplus species. Provide a sponge-enriched diet alongside algae sheets and quality frozen marine foods for long-term success.
Minimum 250 L with plenty of rock for territory and grazing. pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 22–27°C. Feed variety: frozen mysis, krill, spirulina, dried nori, and Angel Formula or sponge-based preparations. May be semi-aggressive with other large angelfish; add as last fish to established system. Reef-tank use requires caution — may nip at LPS corals.
