Porcelain Pleco L060

The Porcelain Pleco (L060) is a visually ethereal loricariid from the blackwater tributaries of the Rio Orinoco in Venezuela. Its near-white to pale cream body with subtle dark reticulations gives it the smooth, luminous appearance that earns its evocative common name. It is a member of the Leporacanthicus complex and requires specialised blackwater conditions to thrive.

L060 demands soft, very acidic, tannin-rich water with minimal dissolved minerals. Supplement the aquarium with Indian almond leaves, alder cones, or peat filtration to achieve suitable blackwater chemistry. Despite the soft water requirement, strong flow and high oxygenation remain essential. Diet should include algae wafers, blanched vegetables, sinking pellets, and protein supplements.

The Porcelain Pleco is a rare and premium species suited to advanced keepers with experience in blackwater aquarium chemistry. It is generally peaceful but can show mildly assertive behaviour around cave territories. House it with other blackwater-adapted Orinoco species such as altum angelfish, dwarf cichlids, and pencilfish.

Water: pH 5.5–7.0, temperature 26–30°C, GH 0–6, KH 0–3; soft acidic blackwater required. Tank: 150 L minimum; tannin-rich water, driftwood, leaf litter, caves, strong flow. Feeding: Omnivore; algae wafers, blanched veg, sinking pellets, occasional frozen protein. Breeding: Cave spawner; extremely rarely achieved; blackwater chemistry essential. Compatibility: Generally peaceful; ideal with other blackwater Orinoco community species.
