Acanthurus leucosternon
Origin: Indian Ocean
The Powder Blue Tang (Acanthurus leucosternon) is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful marine fish, with its powder-blue body, vivid yellow dorsal fin, and crisp white lower face and throat creating a striking contrast. However, it is one of the more demanding tangs due to susceptibility to ich and aggression toward other blue tang species. Excellent water quality, a varied algae-rich diet, a roomy aquarium, and careful introduction are essential for long-term success.
Minimum 400 L with open swimming areas. pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 24–27°C. Feed dried nori and spirulina daily; supplement with frozen mysis and commercial herbivore preparations. Keep only one Acanthurus per system unless the tank is very large. Highly susceptible to ich under stress — maintain pristine water quality and stable temperature. Quarantine recommended.
