About

Betta prima is a mouthbrooding wild Betta native to standing and slow-moving waters of northeastern Thailand and Cambodia. It is a slender-bodied species with subtle vertical banding and quiet colouration compared to domesticated bettas. Males hold eggs and fry in their mouths for several weeks. It is more tolerant of conspecifics than many Betta species.

Care Guide

Water: temp 23–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: minimum 60L; planted with caves; tight-fitting lid necessary. Feeding: carnivore — live and frozen invertebrates; will accept micro pellets over time. Behaviour: peaceful; males mouthbrood; can be kept as pairs or in a small group. Compatibility: suitable with peaceful community fish; avoid aggressive or nippy species.
