Carassius gibelio
Origin: Europe, Central Asia
The Prussian Carp (Carassius gibelio) is a close relative of the goldfish and crucian carp, displaying a silver-bronze body with a slightly deeper profile. One of Europe's most adaptable and resilient pond fish, it thrives in a wide range of water quality conditions including poor oxygen and low-pH environments. A practical and attractive native-compatible species for wildlife and garden ponds, often used in natural pond restoration projects.
Minimum 500 L well-filtered garden pond. pH 6.5–8.5, GH 5–20, KH 2–10, temperature 4–25°C. Feed quality pond pellets when water is above 8°C; stop below 5°C. Tolerant of poor water quality but benefits from good filtration. Compatible with other pond cyprinids. Reduce feeding in winter. Extremely cold-hardy; survives under ice.
