Pseudotropheus williamsi
Origin: Lake Malawi (various rocky localities)
Pseudotropheus williamsi is a robustly built Mbuna endemic to the rocky coasts of Lake Malawi, with multiple locality variants sporting vivid blue, orange, or bicolour male morphs. All forms are active aufwuchs grazers that thrive in heavily rockscaped setups with plenty of algae growth. Moderate aggression for a Mbuna; compatible with similar-sized robust cichlids. The diversity of location variants makes it popular among Mbuna collectors.
Minimum 200 L with heavy rocky aquascape. Malawi water: pH 7.5–8.6, GH 8–20, KH 5–10, temperature 24–28°C. Feed algae-based diet: spirulina flake, Mbuna pellets, algae wafers. Keep one male with multiple females to reduce male-on-male aggression. Compatible with other mid-sized Mbuna. Avoid mixing locality variants to prevent colour-morph dilution. 30% weekly water changes.
