Pundamilia nyererei
Origin: Lake Victoria (Makobe Island, Tanzania)
Pundamilia nyererei is one of the most dazzlingly coloured Lake Victoria cichlids, with males displaying an electric yellow body boldly contrasted by a deep red dorsal region and blue-green face. Multiple locality forms exist with varying intensity and distribution of red. An iconic Victorian cichlid that plays a vital role in ex-situ conservation programmes due to rapid decline of wild populations caused by Nile perch introduction and eutrophication.
Minimum 150 L with rocky structure and open areas. Lake Victoria water: pH 7.2–8.5, GH 8–15, KH 5–10, temperature 22–26°C. Feed varied algae-based diet with occasional protein. Keep one dominant male with multiple females; overpopulate slightly to dilute aggression. Compatible with other Lake Victoria haplochromines of similar size. 25% weekly water changes.
