Pomacea bridgesii
Origin: South America (captive bred)
The Purple Apple Snail is a rare and striking color form of Pomacea bridgesii displaying a deep violet to purple shell that is highly unusual in freshwater invertebrates. One of the most sought-after apple snail morphs, its unusual coloration becomes even more vibrant in well-lit aquariums against dark substrate. Care requirements are identical to other P. bridgesii variants — this species is safe with plants unlike the giant Pomacea canaliculata.
Minimum 40 L. Requires hard water for shell development — pH 7.0–8.0, GH 8–18, KH 5–12, temperature 18–28°C. Feed blanched vegetables (cucumber, zucchini, spinach), sinking pellets, and algae wafers. Must have access to air above water for breathing. Provide calcium supplementation (cuttlefish bone) for shell health. Safe with most plants; doesn't consume healthy plant tissue.
