Pseudochromis porphyreus
Origin: Western Pacific, Coral Triangle
Pseudochromis porphyreus is a uniformly magenta-purple dottyback from the Coral Triangle and Western Pacific, commonly captive-bred ensuring year-round availability at affordable prices. Bold enough to defend itself against larger fish yet peaceful with corals and invertebrates. An excellent beginner dottyback for nano and small reef tanks, adding intense colour to areas where other fish may not venture.
Minimum 75 L reef or FOWLR with caves and crevices. pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.021–1.025, temperature 24–27°C. Feed frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and small carnivore pellets. Semi-aggressive with own species and other small fish; keep one per tank unless mated pair. Reef-safe; won't bother corals or shrimp but may chase smaller fish. Hardy and disease-resistant.
