Euphyllia glabrescens
Origin: Indo-Pacific (aquacultured morph)
This premium aquacultured morph of Euphyllia glabrescens features long, flowing tentacles in deep purple with pale contrasting tips that create a breathtaking visual effect under blue reef lighting. The Purple Torch is one of the most sought-after Euphyllia morphs, commanding premium prices among coral collectors. Care mirrors standard Torch Coral — stable chemistry, low to moderate flow, and generous spacing from neighbouring corals to account for potent sweeper tentacles.
Low to moderate flow; avoid direct high-flow jets on tentacles. Moderate to high light. pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.023–1.025, temperature 24–27°C. Maintain calcium 400–450 ppm, alkalinity 8–11 dKH. Feed phytoplankton or reef roids 1–2× weekly for accelerated growth. Space generously — sweeper tentacles extend 15+ cm at night. Do not place adjacent to other coral species.
