Neocaridina davidi var.
Also known as: Purple Velvet Shrimp, Purple Neocaridina
Origin: Captive bred (Neocaridina davidi lineage)
Purple Velvet Shrimp represent one of the more unusual Neocaridina davidi colour morphs, selectively bred for consistent violet-to-purple body pigmentation that creates a striking contrast against green plants and pale substrates. The depth and saturation of colour varies between individuals, with premium specimens displaying deep, opaque purple. Like all Neocaridina, they are robust and forgiving of minor water parameter fluctuations.
Water: 18–26°C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 6–15, KH 2–8; tolerates most dechlorinated tap water. Tank: minimum 20 L, dark substrate enhances purple tones; provide moss and plants. Feeding: biofilm, algae wafers, blanched vegetables, quality shrimp pellets. Behaviour: peaceful and active; breeds readily once established. Compatibility: shrimp-safe tank mates; avoid predatory fish.
