Corydoras pygmaeus
Also known as: Pygmy Cory, Pygmy Corydoras
Origin: Rio Madeira basin, Brazil
Corydoras pygmaeus is a tiny catfish from the Rio Madeira tributary system in Brazil. Unlike most corys, it spends much of its time in midwater, darting around in tight schools. It is an exceptionally peaceful fish compatible with nano-sized tank mates and is particularly stunning when kept in schools of 15 or more.
Water: 22–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderate (GH 4–12). Tank: 30 L minimum; fine sand substrate for occasional bottom foraging; open midwater space. Feeding: Micro pellets, baby brine shrimp, Cyclops, micro worms; feeds from all levels. Behaviour: Midwater schooler unusual for corys; keep 10+ for active shoaling. Compatibility: Ideal with nano tetras, Boraras, small livebearers, and shrimp.
