Trichopsis pumila
Origin: Thailand, Vietnam, Sumatra
Trichopsis pumila (Pygmy Gourami or Dwarf Croaking Gourami) is a tiny labyrinth fish rarely exceeding 3.5 cm, making it one of the smallest gourami species in the hobby. Like its larger relative, it can produce soft croaking sounds during courtship, and males are more colourful with iridescent blue spots and red finnage. Ideal for nano tanks or heavily planted species setups with very gentle water movement and compatible tiny tank mates.
Minimum 20 L planted nano tank with gentle filtration. pH 5.5–7.5, GH 1–10, KH 0–5, temperature 24–28°C. Feed very small live and frozen foods: daphnia, micro-worms, baby brine shrimp; accepts fine-ground flake. Very gentle flow — easily outcompeted or stressed by strong currents. Keep in pairs or small groups; males display and croak to each other but rarely cause serious injury.
