Synodontis flavitaeniatus
Origin: Democratic Republic of Congo (Congo River)
Synodontis flavitaeniatus, the Pyjama Synodontis, is a spectacularly patterned mochokid from the lower and middle Congo River in the DRC, displaying bold horizontal stripes of orange-brown and cream across its body that give it a striking pyjama-like appearance. Less commonly available than other Synodontis, it commands a premium among catfish enthusiasts. Adapts well to neutral-to-slightly-acidic soft water and peaceful community setups with similarly sized fish.
Minimum 300 L with robust décor, caves, and roots providing hiding spots. pH 6.0–7.5, GH 3–15, KH 1–8, temperature 22–27°C. Omnivorous — feed sinking pellets, wafers, frozen bloodworm, and vegetable matter. Nocturnal; most active after lights out. Compatible with large peaceful community fish. Avoid very small fish which may be eaten. Long-lived — can exceed 15 years with proper care.
