Tylomelania sp.
Also known as: Rabbit Snail, Elephant Snail
Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
Tylomelania species hail from the ancient Sulawesi lakes of Indonesia and are named for their elongated face that resembles a rabbit's. They bear live young and grow slowly to around 8cm. They thrive in harder, alkaline water with stable warm temperatures, ideally replicating their Sulawesi lake biotope.
Water: 26–30°C, pH 7.5–8.5, high mineral content; Sulawesi salt mix recommended for authentic conditions. Tank: Minimum 60L with fine sand substrate, smooth rocks, and driftwood for grazing surfaces. Feeding: Algae wafers, blanched vegetables, biofilm, and sinking pellets; supplement with calcium-rich foods. Behaviour: Slow, peaceful, and active during the day; live-bearing and not prone to population explosions. Compatibility: Excellent with other Sulawesi species and peaceful community fish; avoid aggressive fish or crayfish.
