Tylomelania sp. "Black"
Also known as: Black Rabbit Snail
Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
The Black Rabbit Snail is a deep, near-ebony shelled Tylomelania variant highly valued for its elegant colour against bright substrates and lush green plants. Like other Rabbit Snails, it is a live-bearer from Sulawesi's ancient lake system and thrives in hard, warm, alkaline conditions. It grows slowly and will not overrun a tank.
Water: 26–30°C, pH 7.5–8.5, hard and mineral-rich water; Sulawesi buffer blend recommended. Tank: Minimum 60L with fine sand and smooth hardscape; open grazing areas with settled biofilm. Feeding: Algae wafers, biofilm, and blanched vegetables; calcium-rich supplements promote healthy shells. Behaviour: Peaceful and deliberate; active during the day, produces one live young at a time. Compatibility: Pairs perfectly with other Sulawesi biotope species; avoid snail-eating fish.
