Tylomelania sp. "Orange"
Also known as: Orange Poso Rabbit Snail, Poso Rabbit Snail
Origin: Lake Poso, Sulawesi, Indonesia
The Orange Poso Rabbit Snail is among the most sought-after Tylomelania variants, featuring a rich orange body and a textured, elongated shell. Endemic to Lake Poso in Central Sulawesi, it requires the specific warm, hard water chemistry of its native habitat. It is a live-bearer that reproduces slowly and is unlikely to overpopulate.
Water: 26–30°C, pH 7.5–8.5, hard and alkaline; Sulawesi mineral salts replicate native lake chemistry. Tank: Minimum 60L with fine sand, smooth stones, and plenty of biofilm-covered surfaces. Feeding: Algae wafers, sinking pellets, biofilm, and blanched greens with calcium supplements. Behaviour: Slow, gentle, and active during daylight; live-bearing with very low reproduction rate. Compatibility: Best kept with other Sulawesi species; avoid fish that harass or eat snails.
