Tylomelania sp.
Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
Tylomelania sp., the Rabbit Snail or Long-Horned Snail, is a distinctive Sulawesi lake endemic with a long, pointed conical shell and a large-snouted 'rabbit-like' head. The Orange Spotted variant displays a dark shell with bright orange spots on the mantle and head. Unlike most freshwater snails it is a live-bearer with a very slow reproductive rate — each female produces only one offspring at a time, so it will never become a pest. Feeds on algae, biofilm, and organic detritus.
Warm, alkaline water preferred (pH 7.5–8.5, temperature 26–30 °C). Sandy substrate for burrowing. Feed algae wafers, blanched vegetables, and bacterial leaf litter foods. Does best in Sulawesi-style setups but adapts to moderately hard neutral water.
