Chaetodon lunula
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea
Chaetodon lunula, the Raccoon Butterflyfish, is named for the black 'mask' across its eyes. A vivid yellow body with black and white banding and a distinctive crescent marking makes it one of the most visually striking butterflyfish available. Relatively hardy and one of the easier butterflies to feed — accepts frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and pellets readily. NOT reef safe — will eat corals, tube worms, and most invertebrates. Best for FOWLR systems. A stunning display fish.
FOWLR only. Feed frozen mysis, brine shrimp, marine flake, and sinking pellets. Standard marine parameters. Peaceful with other dissimilar fish. Hardy and adaptable compared to many butterflies. Provide open swimming space with live rock for grazing.
