Epalzeorhynchos frenatum
Origin: Mekong basin, Southeast Asia
Epalzeorhynchos frenatum, the Rainbow Shark or Ruby Shark, is a popular freshwater fish with a grey-black body and vivid red-orange fins. Similar in habit to the Red-Tailed Black Shark but slightly more sociable — groups of 5+ can be kept in very large tanks (400+ L) with sufficient territory. More commonly kept as a single specimen in community tanks 150+ L. A good algae grazer that also scavenges food from the substrate. Hardy and adaptable.
One per tank for standard setups. Temperature 22–26 °C. Dense planting and driftwood for territory marking. Feed algae wafers, sinking pellets, frozen food. Aggressive to conspecifics and similar-looking bottom fish. Peaceful with active mid-water community fish.
