Channa bleheri
Origin: Assam, Northeast India
Channa bleheri, the Rainbow Snakehead, is the most spectacularly coloured snakehead and one of the few truly dwarf species — reaching only 15–18 cm. Native to the Brahmaputra River basin in Assam, India, males display magnificent iridescent blue, green, and orange patterns with vivid fin colouration. A facultative air-breather; it requires access to humid air above the water. Suitable for cool-to-warm single-species or peaceful community setups with larger fish. Requires a secure lid.
Secure lid with an air gap maintained at tank temperature. Temperature 18–25 °C (tolerates cool). Soft, slightly acidic water. Feed live or frozen insects, worms, and fish. Single pair or one per tank. Can coexist with large peaceful fish. 100+ L minimum.
