Planorbella sp. (blue morph)
Also known as: Blue Ramshorn Snail
Origin: Americas (selectively bred)
The Blue Ramshorn is a selectively bred morph with a soft steel-blue to slate-grey body visible through its coiled shell, offering an unusual and attractive addition to planted nano tanks. It grazes efficiently on algae, biofilm, and decaying material and reproduces moderately. Calcium-rich water is essential to prevent shell pitting.
Water: 18–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0; ensure adequate calcium hardness to prevent shell erosion. Tank: Minimum 20L with plants, driftwood, or rocks to graze on; avoid copper-based medications. Feeding: Algae, biofilm, decaying leaves, and algae wafers; will supplement diet with any organic matter. Behaviour: Active and visible throughout the day; non-aggressive and safe with nearly any tankmate. Compatibility: Peaceful with community fish and shrimp; keep away from snail-eaters.
