Carassius auratus
Origin: Captive bred
A blue-scaled Ranchu with the typical egg-shaped body, arched back, and absent dorsal fin characteristic of the breed. The blue coloration is uncommon in the Ranchu line, making this an appealing choice for collectors seeking something beyond the standard red-and-white varieties. Requires attentive care as the compressed body shape can predispose it to swim-bladder issues if fed inappropriately.
Minimum 150 L with gentle filtration and low flow. pH 7.0–8.0, GH 5–15, KH 3–8, temperature 10–22°C. Feed sinking pellets and gel food exclusively to avoid swim bladder problems from surface feeding. Keep with other slow-swimming fancy goldfish of similar size. Shallow tanks (30–40 cm depth) preferred for Ranchu. 25% weekly water changes essential.
