Amblyeleotris randalli
Origin: Western Pacific
Randall's Shrimpgoby (Amblyeleotris randalli) features a cream body patterned with broad orange-red saddles and blue ocelli on the fins, making it one of the more colourful shrimpgoby species. It cohabits with Alpheid snapping shrimp in burrows excavated in sandy substrates — a fascinating symbiosis easily replicated in the home aquarium. Its moderate size and adaptability make it a great addition to reef tanks with ample open sand areas.
Minimum 100 L with open sandy substrate area. pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 24–28°C. Feed frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and carnivore preparations. Pairs naturally with Alpheid pistol shrimp — both species benefit from the symbiosis. Territorial with conspecifics; keep one specimen unless mated pair. Reef-safe.
