Epiplatys dageti
Also known as: Red-chin Panchax, Dageti Panchax
Origin: West Africa (Liberia, Guinea)
Epiplatys dageti is a robust and adaptable killifish from the coastal streams and ponds of Liberia and Guinea. The male is particularly striking with a bright red chin and elegant torpedo-shaped body patterned with rows of red-edged spots. It is a surface predator, hunting small insects and invertebrates, and is an excellent choice for a West African killifish tank.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 5.5–7.5, soft to medium hardness; adaptable species. Tank: Minimum 40L; well-planted surface zone with floating plants; secure lid essential. Feeding: Small dry foods, live or frozen daphnia, brine shrimp, Grindal worms, and small insects. Behaviour: Surface predator; peaceful towards similar-sized tankmates; males may spar briefly. Compatibility: Good with small West African tetras, lampeyes, and bottom-dwelling kribensis.
