Perisesarma bidens
Also known as: Red Claw Crab, Red Mangrove Crab
Origin: Southeast Asia
Perisesarma bidens is a semi-terrestrial crab naturally found in mangrove swamps and brackish estuaries across Southeast Asia. Males sport striking red-tipped claws used in display and territorial confrontations. It requires both aquatic and terrestrial zones, and a slight salt content in the water replicates its natural environment.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.5–8.5, brackish (SG 1.005–1.010) with land access essential. Tank: Minimum 60L paludarium with a substantial land area, hiding spots, and a secure lid to prevent escape. Feeding: Omnivorous — algae, sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, dried shrimp, and meaty foods. Behaviour: Semi-terrestrial; territorial toward conspecifics; keep males separately or provide ample space. Compatibility: Not suitable for fish or shrimp tanks; best kept as a species-only paludarium animal.
