About

The Red Claw Crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus) is a large Australian crayfish displaying a dark blue body with distinctive bright red patches on the outer edges of the claws in males, making it one of the most visually impressive freshwater crayfish available. Long-lived and impressive, it requires a spacious aquarium with excellent filtration. As with all large crayfish, it will eat slow-moving fish and destroy soft-leaved plants.

Care Guide

Minimum 150 L with caves, PVC pipes, and robust hiding spots. pH 7.0–8.5, GH 5–20, KH 3–12, temperature 22–28°C. Feed sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, protein foods. Territorial; keep alone or in male-female pair in a large tank. Incompatible with small fish and ornamental shrimp. Provide high calcium for healthy moult. Excellent filtration essential as a heavy waste producer.
