Coris gaimard
Origin: Indo-Pacific
The Red Coris Wrasse (Coris gaimard) undergoes one of the most dramatic colour transformations in the marine hobby, shifting from an orange-red juvenile with white spots to a stunning blue-green adult with intricate facial markings. An active, robust fish that spends time both swimming and buried in sand — a sand bed of at least 8 cm depth is essential as it buries itself to sleep and escape stress. A showpiece fish for large, well-established marine systems.
Minimum 400 L with deep sand bed (8+ cm) of fine sand for burying. pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 24–28°C. Feed varied carnivore diet: mysis, krill, clams, and quality frozen marine foods. Not reef-safe — will eat ornamental invertebrates including shrimp and small crustaceans. Compatible with other large fish but aggressive with smaller species.
