Cherax sp. 'Red Crystal' is a stunning New Guinean crayfish in which a brilliant deep red base colouration is overlaid with crystalline blue-white iridescent patches across the carapace and chelipeds, producing an extraordinary jewel-like appearance. This species is highly sought after by crayfish collectors for its unique colouration and impressive size. Like all large Cherax, it requires a spacious tank, robust filtration, and is best kept in a species-only or large-fish setup.
Water: 22–27°C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 8–15, KH 4–8; robust filtration for large waste load. Tank: minimum 120 L, multiple large caves and shelters; secure lid. Feeding: sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, fresh plant matter, frozen meaty foods. Behaviour: territorial; will predate small tank mates; digs and rearranges décor. Compatibility: species-only or with large fast-moving fish; not suitable with plants.
