Poecilia reticulata var.
Also known as: Red Female Guppy, Red Guppy Female
Origin: Captive bred
The Red Female Guppy is selected from red show strains for her warm reddish body tones and correct body proportions. While females of most guppy strains are plain grey-brown, quality red-strain females carry enough colour expression to be identifiable and are crucial for maintaining colour fidelity in red breeding lines.
Keeping dedicated strain females is essential for hobbyists who want to produce consistent red males generation after generation. Random female guppies from mixed batches will dilute the colour over generations.
These females are peaceful, hardy, and breed readily, making them an excellent addition to any dedicated livebearer breeding setup.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 8–20; stable conditions essential during gestation. Tank: 60 L minimum; provide dense cover for dropping fry. Feeding: Quality flake, frozen Artemia; high-protein foods support reproductive health. Breeding: Livebearer; store sperm for multiple broods from a single mating; brood 20–60 fry. Compatibility: Peaceful community fish.
