Glossolepis multisquamatus
Origin: West Papua, Indonesia
The Red Irian Rainbowfish (Glossolepis multisquamatus) is a close relative of Glossolepis incisus from West Papua, with males developing deep salmon-pink to orange-red coloration that intensifies with age and condition. It inhabits lowland rivers and swamps, making it slightly more tolerant of warmer temperatures than some highland species. Mixed-sex groups in a large, well-lit aquarium provide spectacular courtship displays and constant colour.
Minimum 200 L with good swimming space and bright lighting. pH 7.0–8.0, GH 5–20, KH 3–10, temperature 24–30°C. Feed quality flake, micro pellets, and frozen foods: bloodworm, brine shrimp, daphnia. Keep in mixed-sex groups of 6+; male competition brings out best colour. Compatible with other rainbowfish and peaceful large-tank fish.
