Apistogramma rubrolineata
Also known as: Red-lined Apisto, Rubrolineata Dwarf Cichlid, Red-stripe Bolivian Apisto
Origin: Bolivia
Apistogramma rubrolineata is a Bolivian species that offers a striking visual presentation: a vivid, continuous red lateral line running from eye to caudal base against a pale lemon-yellow body. This clean, bold coloration pattern is particularly appealing to hobbyists who prefer clear, graphic markings over the more complex patterning of some congeners.
Native to the Bolivian Amazon, the species tolerates slightly less acidic water than many Amazonian apistos — a product of its more southern distribution — making it somewhat more accessible to hobbyists who cannot easily achieve extreme blackwater conditions.
A. rubrolineata is a moderately hardy, personable species that responds well to quality live and frozen foods and will reward intermediate keepers with regular spawning once a compatible pair is established.
Water: Soft to moderate — pH 6.0–7.5, temperature 23–27°C; Bolivian origin grants broader tolerance. Tank: 60 L with sand substrate, driftwood caves, and aquatic plants. Feeding: Varied live/frozen diet with micro-pellet supplement. Breeding: Cave spawner; female guards fry; moderately easy for the intermediate keeper. Compatibility: Small peaceful South American community fish.
