Pseudomugil luminatus
Also known as: Red Neon Blue-eye
Origin: Papua New Guinea (Gulf Province)
Pseudomugil luminatus is native to slow-moving streams and flooded grasslands of Papua New Guinea's Gulf Province, where it inhabits warm, clear water among dense aquatic vegetation. Its brilliant orange-red body colouration, combined with neon blue eyes, makes it arguably the most striking of all blue-eyes. A popular recent addition to the nano aquarium hobby, best kept in groups in a planted aquarium.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard water. Tank: 30 L+ planted nano; gentle flow, dense vegetation for spawning. Feeding: Omnivore; micro-pellets, fine flakes, baby brine shrimp, and micro-worms. Behaviour: Active, peaceful, highly displayful nano fish; males compete with vivid colour. Compatibility: Excellent with other very small, peaceful nano species.
