Carassius auratus
Also known as: Red Oranda, Oranda Goldfish, Fancy Goldfish
Origin: China/Japan
The Red Oranda is beloved for its prominent raspberry-like wen (head growth) and graceful, flowing double caudal fins. It thrives in well-filtered, cool aquariums with ample swimming space. Regular partial water changes and a varied diet keep the wen developing and the colors vibrant.
Water: 10–22°C coldwater, pH 6.5–7.5, well-oxygenated with strong filtration. Tank: minimum 150 L, rounded décor only (no sharp edges), no heater needed. Feeding: omnivore — sinking goldfish pellets, blanched vegetables, occasional daphnia or bloodworm. Behaviour: peaceful and social; can learn to recognize owners at feeding time. Compatibility: best with other fancy goldfish; avoid fast fin-nipping species or tropical fish.
