Glossolepis incisus
Also known as: Red Rainbowfish, Salmon-red Rainbowfish
Origin: Indonesia (West Papua, Lake Sentani)
Glossolepis incisus is endemic to Lake Sentani near Jayapura in West Papua, where it inhabits clear, moderately hard water. Mature males develop an extraordinary deep red colouration across the entire body and fins, with a characteristic high-arched back profile. Despite their striking appearance, males can be mildly aggressive toward each other and should be kept with several females to balance the group dynamic.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard to hard water. Tank: 200 L+, spacious with open swimming areas and robust decor. Feeding: Omnivore; quality flakes, pellets, and frozen/live foods to enhance colour. Behaviour: Males can be boisterous with each other; keep more females than males. Compatibility: Good with other large rainbowfish; avoid small or slow-moving tankmates.
