Neocaridina davidi var.
Also known as: Red Rili Neocaridina, Rili Shrimp
Origin: Captive bred (originally East Asia)
The Red Rili Neocaridina is a selectively bred Neocaridina davidi pattern morph featuring opaque red pigmentation concentrated in the head and tail sections while the midsection remains largely transparent. This distinct 'two islands' pattern creates immediate visual interest and is clearly different from solid-colour Neocaridina morphs.
High-quality Red Rili specimens display a sharp, clean transition between coloured and clear body sections. The morph is entirely beginner-friendly, sharing the same robust nature, adaptability, and prolific breeding behaviour of all Neocaridina davidi.
Offspring may show variable pattern intensity — some inheriting full Rili pattern, others reverting toward solid or mixed expressions — making selective breeding for pattern consistency an enjoyable challenge for hobbyists.
Water: 18–26°C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 6–15, KH 2–8; dechlorinated tap water appropriate. Tank: minimum 20 L; plants and mosses for cover; dark substrate enhances colour contrast. Feeding: biofilm, algae wafers, blanched vegetables, shrimp pellets; small amounts every 1–2 days. Breeding: easy; 20–30 eggs per clutch; pattern sharpness varies among offspring. Compatibility: peaceful; suitable with small nano fish and other Neocaridina morphs.
