Synchiropus stellatus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Synchiropus stellatus, the Starry or Red Scooter Dragonet, displays a dramatic red-and-white spotted pattern and is somewhat easier to keep than the closely related Mandarin Dragonet. It tends to be less picky about live food — many individuals accept frozen mysis with some effort. Like all dragonets it requires a copepod-rich mature reef and should not compete with aggressive feeders. Hops along the rockwork in characteristic scooting movements, endlessly searching for copepods.
Mature reef with copepod population. Attempt to train onto frozen mysis with targeted feeding (use a feeding station). Standard reef parameters. One dragonet per tank unless very large system. Peaceful with all reef inhabitants.
