Aulonocara hansbaenschi
Also known as: Red Shoulder Peacock Blue Neon, Blue Neon Peacock, Red Shoulder Peacock
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
The Red Shoulder Peacock Blue Neon is a wild-type Aulonocara hansbaenschi colour form prized for its vivid contrast between its neon-blue body and fiery shoulder marking. Males develop full colouration in established aquaria with stable, alkaline water. Best kept in a species-appropriate peacock or hap community.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.5-9.0, hard alkaline water; consistency is key for best colouration. Tank: Minimum 200L; sandy base with open swimming space and gentle rocky borders. Feeding: High-quality cichlid pellets with occasional frozen mysis; avoid beef heart. Behaviour: Males defend a loose territory; keep one male per tank unless the aquarium is very large. Compatibility: Peacock and hap community; avoid overly aggressive species.
