The Red Spotted Pigeon Blood Discus takes the classic pigeon blood base and intensifies the red spotting through targeted selective breeding. Where standard Pigeon Bloods display orange pepper spots, the Red Spotted variant exhibits denser, larger, and more saturated red-orange spots that cover a greater proportion of the body surface.

This strain requires the same care as all domestic discus but benefits especially from a diet rich in astaxanthin and carotenoids to maintain the intensity of both the orange base and the red spot overlay. The spotting pattern is further enhanced in warm, soft, slightly acidic conditions that minimise stress-related colour changes.

The Red Spotted Pigeon Blood is one of the most visually dynamic domestic strains available — no two fish are identical, and the complex interplay of base colour and spot density creates endless fascination for the observant keeper.

Water: 28-31°C, pH 5.5-7.0, soft to moderately soft (1-10 dGH), KH 0-5. Tank: Minimum 250 L, moderate lighting, dark substrate to enhance spot visibility, driftwood and plants. Feeding: Astaxanthin and carotenoid-rich pellets, beefheart, bloodworm, spirulina-enriched brine shrimp. Breeding: Prolific; pigeon blood genetics improve hatchling survival rates; spawns on vertical surfaces. Compatibility: Peaceful with other discus, cardinal tetras, rummynose tetras, small Corydoras.
