Geophagus winemilleri
Also known as: Red-striped Eartheater, Winemiller's Eartheater
Origin: South America
Geophagus winemilleri is a strikingly coloured eartheater from the Orinoco drainage. Bold red stripes on a warm golden body make it one of the most visually impressive Geophagus species. Like all eartheaters, it requires deep fine sand to engage its natural sifting behaviour and produces its best colour in well-maintained soft water.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.2, soft water produces best colouration. Tank: Minimum 280L, deep fine sand, moderate driftwood and open swimming area. Feeding: Sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, live daphnia, high-quality cichlid granules. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive between males; peaceful toward other species of similar size. Compatibility: Works well with large robust tetras, plecos, and other Geophagus species.
